How to Select Your Next Smartphone Online
We have narrowed down key factors affecting your smartphone purchase. Let’s have a look at them:
(1) Budget
In this section, the smartphone world is divided into three (or sometimes four) categories namely:
- Ultra-affordable Smartphones (Below Rs 7000)
- Budget Smartphones (Rs 7000-14000)
- Mid-range Smartphones (Rs 15000-25000)
- High-end Smartphones (Rs 30000 or Above)
In India, people are so price sensitive. They want to have best features in their smartphones, but that should not burn their pockets. Keeping price in mind, several smartphone manufacturers are constantly bringing budget smartphones to lure maximum population in the country. While buying any smartphone, keep this point in mind – Don’t compromise or get distracted with its price tag.
Another way to attract more and more people, several e-commerce websites like Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon offer amazing offers on smartphone regularly. At first, always consider what features you require in your next smartphone. Not every shining thing is gold, you should consider an overall package of the device before buying it.
(2) Hardware
Smartphones are getting bigger and better with each passing day. Be it display size or design or camera functionality, people should consider every minute detail of their next smartphone.
(3) Screen Size
These days, bigger screen size is in trend. People are going crazy for a phablet sized smartphone. Actually, the smartphone industry has opted three different display sizes.
Large Screens (5.5 inches or bigger)
People are doing every possible activity on their smartphones, be it watching a youtube video or a full 3-hour film. Considering this usage, smartphone makers has brought several 5.5 inches display size smartphone in the market.
Till mid-2014, there were few phablets in the market, but now within 500 days, phablet market has taken a huge plunge. That’s the reason, Apple (always come up with a 4-inch smartphone) has launched iPhone 6 Plus last year.
Medium Screens (5 inches to < 5.5 inches)
My personal favorite display size of a smartphone is 5-inch. It is not that big or small. Big Smartphone makers including Google and Samsung has their flagship smartphones with a display size of 5-inch. Having a midtier display size, it would be easy to grip the device with one hand.
Small Screens (> 4.5, but < 5 inches)
Most entry level or ultra budget smartphones lie in this size category. Our advice: Not to go for such mediocre screen size. It may hamper your overall smartphone experience.
(4) Processor
A processor aka heart of any smartphone helps you compute several smartphone tasks like calling, messaging, running apps at faster and smoother way. A fast processor is always preferable as it increases the overall performance of a device.
Clock speed (in GHz) of your processor is the easiest way to judge the capability of your smartphone. Higher is better. Number of cores also affects the processing speed of the processor. Nowadays, there are 4 types of different cores that are being used in the smartphone. More is faster.
- Dual Core
- Quad Core
- Hexa Core
- Octa Core
(5) Camera
One of the most important features that everyone considers while purchasing a smartphone is its Camera. For clicking a good photo, number of pixels does not matter only. There are a whole lot of other factors as well. Sometimes we see that a smartphone with 8-megapixel clicks better images than the smartphone equipped with a 13-Megapixel camera. The lens quality is also important while selecting the new phone. Other camera features like Optical image stabilization comes with flagship smartphones. Do consider them if you get such features in Mid-range smartphones.
We all have become selfie-maniac. So, it is advisable to look for a smartphone with a decent front snapper. Makers like Sony and Asus have brought great selfie smartphones in India.
(6) Battery
One of the most crucial features that you should not skip while buying a new smartphone is its battery backup. Having a greater capacity battery is always advisable. You should choose smartphones that come with at least 2000 mAh battery. Otherwise, be prepared to keep charging your phone again and again.
(7) Software
In this section, we would talk about the operating system you should have in your upcoming smartphone. There are several operating systems available in the market. Three major operating systems are ruling the smartphone world – Android (Google), iOS (Apple) and Windows (Microsoft).
Talking about other OS, Blackberry OS and recently unveiled CynogenMOD OS are also worth considering. On these platforms, there are tons of downloadable applications that would help enhance your overall smartphone experience. Out of all, the majority of smartphones are running on Google’s Android OS.
